Capital Sensitivity Provisions for Diagnostic Imaging Equipment

The Department of Health changed the capital sensitivity provisions for diagnostic imaging equipment for 2014-2015 budget. The changes can be found in their Capital Sensitivity Factsheet.

The provisions have been amended to "strengthen the quality and safety of Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) diagnostic imaging services through alignment and consistency of the capital sensitivity measure across all modalities (except Positron Emission Tomography (PET))."

In addition to increased sensitivity measures, the government introduced a ‘maximum extended life age’ of 15 years for computed tomography (CT) and angiography services.

To find out if your diagnostic imaging equipment meets the new standards you can view the changes here.
